School Section Lake
Regarded by many as the most picturesque lake in the county. The east branch of the Little Muskegon River flows nearby and is favorite haunt of the trout fisherman.
Known for its bluegill and bass fishing and enjoyed by young and old alike. Only minutes away are the miles of wilderness waterways provided by the Martiny Lakes flooding area.
Jehnsen Lake is the headwaters of a large stream & lake system in central Mecosta County.
Mecosta County’s largest lake features very affordable homes and cottages. The Haymarsh State Game Area is a popular neighbor to the west.

Riverwalk is an award winning, multifunctional pathway giving access to fishing platforms, benches, bike racks and picnic areas.
With more than 100 lakes and rivers in our area, water sports play a large part in bringing new neighbors to Mecosta County. The beautiful Muskegon River winds through Big Rapids and the city is known throughout Michigan as the tubing capital. Rails to trails are part of a nationwide network converting old railroad lines into usable trails for hiking, biking, snowmobiling and cross country skiing. Big Rapids is also home to Ferris State University (FSU). Many of the areas cultural events and attractions like theatrical plays, speakers and concerts are sponsored by FSU.
